2018 will be an exciting year for Stansted as it gears up to accommodate record passenger numbers. Over 26million people pass through each year and owners, Manchester Airport Group has identified that to get the most from the single runway airport, they need to improve the terminal facilities.
Earlier in the year, the airport was given the green light to build a new £130m arrivals centre and the design work is now underway with construction of the 366,000 sq ft. building planned to begin in May next year.
The new three-storey building will feature a larger immigration and baggage reclaim area and additional retail facilities. It’s thought, the project will complete mid- 2019 and will pave the way for the airport to upgrade the existing terminal.
With additional terminal capacity, the airport hopes to boost annual passenger numbers to 35 million and absorb demand that cannot be met by other London airports.
