Work has already begun on the extensive £80m redevelopment of Edinburgh Airport with the first phase of the airside programme is due for delivery this summer. The next phase of the master plan will begin shortly after and is likely to take a year and a half to complete. Proposed works on the airport site include:
an enlarged terminal building to create space for more passengers and facilities, particularly to serve additional international services.
an enlarged area for the parking of aircraft
an enlarged cargo storage area
improved access through the provision of a new road linking to the Gogar Roundabout
the removal of the current second runway, the configuration and size of which are not suitable for frequent use
