CarmichaelUK: Proud Finalists in the National Rail Awards 2024

Updated: Jul 31

We are thrilled to announce that CarmichaelUK has been nominated for two prestigious categories in the National Rail Awards 2024: Outstanding Contribution to Society and Outstanding Teamwork. These nominations not only recognise our relentless pursuit of excellence but also celebrate our commitment to making a significant impact within the rail and construction industries.

The National Rail Awards are known for highlighting the very best in the industry, from innovative projects to exemplary individuals. Being shortlisted for these awards is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team and our unwavering commitment to driving positive change.

CarmichaelUK's Celebrate 'Inclusive Recruitment Model' Initiatives

At CarmichaelUK, inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. Our Celebrate 'inclusive recruitment model' initiative is designed to ensure that we reach and recruit from all sections of society, providing equal opportunities for everyone. This model is not just a recruitment strategy but a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.

We have implemented a series of programs and outreach activities aimed at engaging underrepresented groups, including women, ethnic minorities, Ex-offenders, Ex-forces and people with disabilities. By creating tailored recruitment pathways and providing necessary support and training, we have successfully opened doors for many who might otherwise have been overlooked in the traditional recruitment process.

EDI Commitments

Our commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) goes beyond recruitment. We strive to create a working environment where every individual feels valued and respected. Our EDI initiatives include ongoing training for our staff to raise awareness and promote understanding, as well as policies and practices that ensure fairness and equity in all aspects of our operations.

Placing People First

At CarmichaelUK, we believe that placing people first is fundamental to our success. This philosophy guides our approach to both our employees and the communities we serve. We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to contribute and thrive within our organization.

Outstanding Teamwork

Partnership with HM Prison & Probation Services, Elite Project Services, and EKFB

Our nomination for Outstanding Teamwork celebrates our innovative partnership with HM Prison & Probation Services, Elite Project Services, and EKFB. This collaboration focuses on providing meaningful work opportunities for prisoners released on temporary licence (ROTL), helping them reintegrate into society and the workforce.

This initiative is an example of how effective teamwork and strategic partnerships can drive positive social change. By working closely with HM Prison & Probation Services, we identify suitable candidates and provide them with the necessary training and support to transition smoothly into employment within the construction industry.

Placing ROTL Prisoners into Meaningful Work

The process of placing ROTL prisoners into meaningful work involves several critical steps. First, we conduct comprehensive assessments to understand each individual's skills, interests, and needs. Next, we offer targeted training programs to equip them with the relevant industry skills and knowledge. Finally, we facilitate placements with our partners, ensuring that each individual is matched with a role that suits their abilities and aspirations.

Increasing Entrants into the Construction Industry

One of the key objectives of this initiative is to address the skills shortage in the construction industry by increasing the number of entrants. By tapping into the potential of individuals who are often overlooked, we are not only helping to rebuild lives but also strengthening the industry as a whole. This initiative has already seen numerous success stories, with many former prisoners now thriving in their new roles and making valuable contributions to their teams.

Acknowledgements

We owe our success to the incredible dedication and hard work of our team and partners. Their unwavering commitment to our mission and values has been instrumental in achieving these nominations. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone at CarmichaelUK, as well as our partners at HM Prison & Probation Services, Elite Project Services, and EKFB.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the National Rail Award judging panel for recognising our efforts and considering us for these awards. Your acknowledgment means a great deal to us.

A Message from Leadership

"Our Celebrate initiative drives our EDI commitments to ensure that we reach out to all sections of society when recruiting candidates.

The Outstanding Teamwork category relates to our work with HM Prison & Probation services, our training provider Elite Project Services, and EKFB. This nomination recognises the strong partner relationships that the company strives to build with candidates, clients and suppliers.

This particular partnership has facilitated placing prisoners released on temporary licence (ROTL) into meaningful work from which they can build a career. Our decision to focus efforts on placing people due for release from prison reflects our commitment to increase the numbers of entrants into the construction industry.

We would like to thank the CarmichaelUK team and all of our partners who have dedicated time and effort, working alongside us, to ensure the success of these initiatives"
