At CarmichaelUK Diversity and Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, we are committed to being a truly inclusive employer, providing recruitment services which embrace diversity and promote equality of opportunity. We promote this through our Celebrate initiative, this is in place to ensure, as a company, that our candidates & clients are free from discrimination and in a place everyone is equally included and understood.

Earlier in the year, CarmichaelUK took home the ‘Individual Choice’ Recruitment Industry Disability Initiative (RIDI) award. RIDI is an organisation that is devoted to breaking down the barriers faced by the millions of disabled people who are entering or progressing through the job market. We were nominated for this award by our candidate Jamie who worked with Penelope, our Regional Manager to get back into work on site after some time away from work due to health issues.

Our candidate, Jamie, said: “I had worked with Penelope at CarmichaelUK on various different sites before starting at A14 Project. I had encountered some difficulties which led to me being out of work for five years, and I didn’t really know how I was going to get back into the construction industry. People see a careers gap and my age, even though I have a degree they’re put off. But I sorted out my CV and I was contacted by CarmichaelUK. Pen has made it her life mission to get me back into the industry I love and I can’t thank her enough.

It’s easy to see the companies that care and are genuine, and CarmichaelUK and the A14 are both true to that. It’s becoming less of a stigma in the construction industry, which has perhaps not always been seen as the most supportive environment. The whole industry needs more people like those at the A14 and CarmichaelUK

We are approved as a Level 2 Employer with Disability Confident, a Government scheme which recognises businesses that actively seek out and hire skilled disabled people and people with health conditions. Alongside this, we are also a Stonewall Diversity Champion; Stonewall supports those within the LGBT community, and are supporters of MIND and have committed to the Time To Change pledge, which looks to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding about the challenges that people can experience when they have mental health issues.

We’re always on the lookout for great talent! Call us on 0208 522 8888 if you’re looking for work in the construction and engineering industry.
