Today, CarmichaelUK is celebrating International Youth Day! There are currently 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in the world – the largest youth population ever. But 1 in 10 of the world’s children lives in conflict zones and 24 million of them are out of school. The theme for International Youth Day 2018 is Safe Spaces for Youth.

We understand the importance of helping young people get the help and opportunities they need to succeed. We have a successful history of placing young people in work experience across various Major UK Projects including Woolwich Crossrail Station and London Bridge Station. If you, or someone you know, is looking for work experience on site read our Top Tips for getting work experience blog or call us on 0208 522 8888 to see how we can help you.

Alongside work experience, we also value helping young people gain experience within our own company. We currently have two Apprentices working at CarmichaelUK, Rida – Our London Receptionist Apprentice and Mirren – Our Digital Marketing Apprentice. Our Apprentices spend time outside of work at College learning and working towards qualifications while gaining real life experience within the workplace.

Mirren spoke to us about her journey as an apprentice at CarmichaelUK, she said“Getting an Apprenticeship at CarmichaelUK has been a positive journey. After just 2 months I had already passed my exam and now hold a Level 3 qualification in coding. This is one qualification among many that the company has helped me gain already. I am also proud to already be a part of the companies D&I scheme ‘Celebrate’ as a MIND Champion, CarmichaelUK really go above and beyond to support me and my learning and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the team.

At CarmichaelUK we also support campaigns such as Year of Engineering. The government-funded initiative was introduced to tackle the Engineering skills gap and therefore widen the pool of young people who join the profession. To learn more about what the Year of Engineering is about and how you can get involved read our 2018: Year of Engineering blog!
