CarmichaelUK supporting LGBT+ Pride Month!
Did you know that June is LGBT Pride Month? Every year, during the month of June, the LGBT community celebrates in a number of different ways. Across the globe, various events are held during this special month as a way of recognising the influence LGBT people have had around the world.
This year’s LGBT Pride Month theme is Jubilee, marking 50 years since the Stonewall uprising in 1969. The Stonewall riots were prompted by a raid that took place during the early morning, at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. The LGBT community held a series of spontaneous, often violent demonstrations to protest against the raid and calling for the establishment of places that gays and lesbians could go and be open about their sexual orientation.
As well as being a month long celebration, Pride month is also an opportunity to peacefully protest and raise political awareness of current issues facing the community. Parades are a prominent feature of Pride month, and there are many street parties, community events, poetry readings, public speaking, street festivals and educational sessions all of which are covered by mainstream media and attracting millions of participants.
At CarmichaelUK, we are showing our LGBT+ support by displaying our pride logo’s across all our social channels, take a look!
We are also proud supporters of Stonewalls Rainbow Laces campaign, which aims to bring people together through the power of sport. Two of our Rugby-playing employees and candidate were keen to distribute the rainbow laces amongst their teams.
CarmichaelUK has been working closely with Stonewall over the past 2 years. From sponsoring events to training our staff to understand the challenges faced by the LGBT+ community. This is very important to us at CarmichaelUK as we want the construction industry to be a wholly inclusive place to work in.
