Carmichael UK recruiter Penelope Ware wins Considerate Constructors Award!
CarmichaelUK Senior Business Manager; Penelope Ware was presented with the Considerate Constructors Scheme Hero Award to recognise and thank her for the care, dedication and determination she demonstrated when working with the A14 to place Jamie back into the construction industry.
Pam Hobson, Stakeholder Director at A14 (IDT) nominated Penelope for the award and told us: “I have known Penelope for a number of years and her caring nature is always clear to see. The combined effort of Penelope, supported by Nick Whyment, to help Jamie is definitely above and beyond, and a true reflection of her genuine desire and determination to help her trusted clients. Nominating her for a Considerate Constructors Scheme Hero award was one of the easiest decisions I have ever had to make and I was delighted when the CCS panel equally agreed.”
In last week’s update, we visited the offices of the A14 Integrated Delivery Team (IDT) and met with CarmichaelUK contractor Jamie who after a career break due to mental and physical health barriers, found it difficult to get back into construction. Working with Penelope and the CarmichaelUK team, Jamie started work at the A14 project as an Engineering Administrator, in August 2017. Due to his on-going difficulties, Jamie is often in and out of work, so it can be difficult to feel part of a team; however, both the A14 IDT and CarmichaelUK have worked hard to make Jamie’s environment an inclusive one.
Jamie said “I had worked with Pen at CarmichaelUK on various different sites before starting at A14. I had encountered some difficulties which led to me being out of work for five years, and I didn’t really know how I was going to get back into the construction industry but Pen has made it her life mission to get me back into the industry I love and I can’t thank her enough. The team I work with at the A14 are very supportive, they offer flexibility and are exceptionally understanding of my situation. I can often have a lot of time off of work, so it’s hard to feel part of a team, but I settled in straight away and found everyone approachable.”
CarmichaelUK is committed to being a truly inclusive employer, providing recruitment services which embrace diversity and promote equality of opportunity. We believe everyone has the right to work in an environment where they can be themselves, free from discrimination and in a place where people of all identities and experiences are understood, valued and fully included. Last year we were delighted and privileged to win the Supplier Award for Diversity and Inclusion from Skanska. This latest award shows that our celebrate initiative is embedding diversity and inclusion practices throughout our business and in sourcing candidates.
Well done Pen!
