The Potash Mine is a £2bn project which consists of a new mine located 3.5km south of Whitby in North Yorkshire, which will extract polyhalite ore is said to create up to 2,500 jobs. A 37km underground mineral transport system will convey the ore north-west to the project’s granulation facility at the Wilton International site at Teesside. North Yorkshire and will see the construction of a 23-mile tunnel which will transport minerals to a processing Plans include the use of three hard rock TBMs, which will be lowered in at four intermediate staging shafts. The starting depth will be around 360m below the surface at the mine head.
Highway works at the site have now been completed and further work to prepare the sight has begun; Main works on the site scheduled to start early on in 2018 and is due to be completed in 2021.
